Dear Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Martin O'Malley, Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, John Kasich, Jim Gilmore, George Pataki, Rand Paul, and Rick Santorum,
We know running for president is hard. It's a hectic lifestyle, and it's easy to get caught up in the race. But we just wanted to remind you - you're trying to become the president of the United States of America. Not the president of the Republican Party or the Democratic Party. All too often, politicians forget that and focus on just their party. It's all about conservative ideals, conservative policies, or conservative voters. Or liberal ideals, liberal policies, and liberal voters. This phenomenon can be seen in almost every candidate's rallies and all of the debates. In the last Democratic debate, for instance, candidates were asked: “Which enemy are you most proud of?” Hillary Clinton responded with a list of typical liberal enemies and ended with "probably the Republicans." And there lies the problem.
The enemy is not the other party. The other party is your friend. Because of the extensive gridlock in Congress, politicians have become less inclined to reach across the aisle and work together on legislation. Instead, they attempt to sabotage each other's efforts while promoting their bills as "the one that will truly help Americans succeed and attain the American Dream." We must remember that both parties have America's best interests at heart. They just have different ways of showing it.
Sincerely,
America
